A Kind of Wine is a biodynamic and natural wine project by AKOG Hotel Group. For each edition, we collaborate with a different European winemaker and artist who share our commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

A KIND OF WINE 05
Our fifth release is a skin-fermented natural white from the 2022 vintage, created in collaboration with Andi Weigand, a family estate rooted in the medieval town of Iphofen and surrounded by the rugged Keuper hills of Franconia.
This 2022 Bacchus–Scheurebe was harvested from over 50-year-old estate vines at peak ripeness. Fermented on the skins for nine months in amphorae, it develops subtle tannins, clear fruit, and a textured profile.
Aged three years with no filtration or added sulfites, this natural wine is a nuanced companion for winter gatherings and lively evenings alike.

Bacchus and Scheurebe were hand-selected, fully de-stemmed and placed as whole berries into amphorae, where they remained on their skins for nine months.
This long maceration builds structure and depth while preserving the clear, fruity character of these Franconian varieties.
Bottled without filtration or added sulfites, the wine matured for three years, allowing its tannins to settle and its fruit to gain quiet nuance.
A composed expression of Bacchus, Scheurebe, and place.
In the medieval wine town of Iphofen, surrounded by the rugged Keuper hills, Andi Weigand has carved out his own path as one of Franconia’s young, wild voices.
The estate farms organically under Naturland guidelines, with old vines paired with carefully selected new plantings. Harvest is done entirely by hand, supported by a close crew of friends & family.
In the cellar, Andi reduces everything to its essence. Spontaneous fermentation and long aging in oak, with no additions, no sulfur, and no filtration.

The label features an image of a horse’s back, a symbol of freedom, energy, and untamed spirit.
Created by Kurt Bauer, a self-taught Austrian photographer, the artwork reflects his instinct for capturing subtle detail and the aliveness of everyday scenes.
His choice of motif mirrors Andi Weigand’s approach to winemaking: guided by nature rather than intervention.

Working hand in hand with the winemakers, we ensure that every bottle reflects our shared ethos.

Our fourth release was a natural Welschriesling from the 2023 vintage, crafted at Werlitsch from over 50-year-old vines.
Despite a year of heavy rainfall and low yields, this parcel stood out, resulting in a wine with delicate fruit, juicy texture, and an unmistakably authentic character.
The label artwork was created by French-Thai artist Nicolas Yuthanan Chalmeau. Inspired by ritual objects such as masks, his work explores identity, spirit, and transformation echoing the quiet depth and layered presence of the wine itself.

Our third batch was natural a red wine that bursts with vibrant energy and youthful exuberance, crafted by the family run Mendall.
The artwork on the label was designed by Munich-based graphic designer Mirko Borsche, who runs the eponymous Bureau Borsche.
The drawing is inspired by ancient Japanese samurai illustrations and the gloomy Krampus tradition, fused with – to draw attention to the wine’s origins – the Correfoc tradition of Catalonia.

Our second release was a skin-contact orange wine crafted in collaboration with Alphart am Mühlbach, a natural wine-focused winery in the Thermenregion of Austria.
The label features the work of Martin Fengel, whose illustration depicts two playful figures enjoying each other’s company, reflecting the fresh and vibrant character of the wine.
The Rotgipfler grape offers delicious notes of tropical fruit, blackberries, fresh herbs, spice, and a salty finish. A modern play of aromas with rich minerality, characteristic of the limestone-rich terroir, it is nothing short of exceptional and one of the most exciting wines from this region.

A KIND OF WINE 01
